16 Jun Social Media: A Conversation
As more small businesses delve into content marketing, they discover the importance of social media and the impact it can have on a business. Yet so many small businesses make mistakes with their social media. Hard sell after hard sell will drive potential as well as seasoned customers away. So how can a small business truly utilize all of the benefits of social media, promote their business, and engage with customers without being overbearing? It is all about conversation, my friend.
Yes, a conversation is key to successful social media. You can’t just put your information out there and expect it to rise to success. You have to do a little more than simply posting. Consider being at a party. You don’t stand in the corner and expect everyone to come to you. You mingle! That is exactly how you should think of social media. Here are a few tips to starting the conversation as well as continuing the conversation.
1) Create original and fresh content: Hard sells do not work with social media. You have to provide information that benefits and enriches the customers’ lives. Social media isn’t exactly about you, it is about how you can help your customers.
2) Respond!: So many times we see companies tweeted to or Facebook posts commented on, and the company NEVER responds. This is the conversation part! If you get a like, retweet, comment or any kind of engagement, respond! This is so important. You are building relationships with your customers. (Maybe we can add in a picture of a company tweeting to a customer).
3) Ask for engagement: Sometimes, you have to tell people what you want from them. Ask them to share their thoughts. You can even create a hashtag and ask them to use it. Create a giveaway based on engagement. There are so many options to get people engaged.
